Once I had edited and completed the beginning of the trailer, I decided that I would mimic one last thing from the trailer for Step Up 2, being the way that thhe characters are introduced with their names appearing following clips of them. I really liked this because I found it was an eay way to correct the problem I came accross of not enough dialogue. Next I began to add the music tracks to the other shots I had edited. I did this by cutting the music to the parts that I thought would merge well and emphasis certain parts of the trailer. For example, as Sarah is introduced the clip of her pauses as the next track is brought in and I thought it works really well.
As the trailer went on, I sped up the clips as I had planned to in my animatic and made the cuts quicker as the titles were introduced. This makes the audience focus on the clips more as they are shown faster.
Once I had completed the editing I noticed that I didn't follow through with my orignal plan of the switch between colour and black and white to create emphasis on certain shots. I decided that in fact I did like this effect and so I changed the trailer slightly so that when a character was introduced, the shot would pause, turn to black and white and their name would appear.
This lead me onto the final shot where I had planned that Jasmine would be dancing and it would merge into the title with bright colours, much like Step Up 2. However, I changed my idea slightly so that the black and white effect would continue to the end and Jasmine would be dancing and flicker with the music, then change to black and white, pause and the title would appear. I decided that this would be more suitable as I didnt use many bright colours through out the trailer so the title would be a bit too abstract compared to the rest of the trailer.

Editing Day 1
When I began editing, the first thing I did was import all the clips that I liked and began cutting them so that the same section of the trailer was shown from many different points of view. Once I had done this I realised that as I had changed the storyline slightly during filming, there wasn't as many clips with dialogue as I had first planned but I made the most of it and began placing them in between the dancing shots. I then began adding the music that I had chosen and began testing where to put each non-diegetic clip to create emphasis at select parts of the trailer.
When adding the music to the clips I had edited, I watched both the Step Up and Step Up 2 trailers over again so I could try and match similar styles of transitions and ways of switching music tracks without being so obvious and distracting the audience. I noticed that in both trailers, neither use average 'cut' transitions between each clip as they also include fade in and fade out transitions, where as in my planning and animatic I had planned to just cut between each shot. I also noticed that in both Step Up and Step Up 2 trailers short sound clips of bursts or sharp sound are used with a sharp change of shot or music so that the music is blended better.
I used this to my advantage and searched for a short burst of sound that I could use between shorts so that the music was blended better and easier to watch and listen to. By watching the other trailers I also found that neither trailer goes straight into the storyline of the film like I had orginally planned in my animatic, as both trailers use shots of dancers to introduce the storyline at the beginning without actually introducing the characters.
This lead me to search for a simple track with strong beats for the beginning of my trailer so that I could use short but strong images of dancers with the fade in transition so that it made it obvious to the audience what the trailer was about but without introducing the characters.
Also I found in the trailer for Step Up 2 that a rhetorical question was used including the title of the previous film saying 'Are You Ready To Step Up?'. I really liked this effect because it implied the storyline and link with the dancing form the previous film so I decided I would mimic this technique and include the question 'Ever Wanted To Just Dance?', as the title of the film is Just Dance.

Filming Day 1
I began by following my story board and filming the shots of Sarah and her friend dancing. I found I liked the angles from a distance, creating a long shot, with the reflection of the characters in the mirror. I decided to film the same clip from many angles so that I can cut between the angles as my research shows that in trailers for the genre 'teen drama' trailers often use many angles to display one section of the film.
When it came to filming the clips with dialogue, I developed my story board by once again using different angles to display the same clip. I did this by filming each section from both point of views so that i can cut to the person that is talking when editing.
I remembered that during many 'teen drama' trailers there are often humourous clips added to create a comic feel to the film, making the audience more relaxed. this led me to film a similar clip to add to my trailer as the actress for Jasmine was doing a funny impression, I decided to film it and add it in as it added a comic feel to the story. I also filmed the actresses of Jasmine and Alisha laughing so that I could add those clips in as well.
Finally, I added another section to my trailer of Alisha passing Jasmine some ballet clothes and say 'wear these next time'. This gives the impression that Alisha is helping Jasmine to become a ballerina and it also includes more dialogue into the trailer.
